the algorithm for solving the inverse numerical range problem
On uniqueness in the problem of gravity-capillary water waves above submerged bodies
In this paper we consider the two-dimensional linear problem of wave–body interaction with surface tension effects being taken into account. We suggest a criterion for unique solvability of the problem based on symmetrization of boundary integral equations. The criterion allows us to develop an algorithm for detecting non-uniqueness (finding trapped modes) for given geometries of bodies; exampl...
متن کاملGlobal Solutions for the Gravity Water Waves Equation in Dimension
We show existence of global solutions for the gravity water waves equation in dimension 3, in the case of small data. The proof combines energy estimates, which yield control of L related norms, with dispersive estimates, which give decay in L∞. To obtain these dispersive estimates, we use an analysis in Fourier space; the study of space and time resonances is then the crucial point.

1.1 The hydrodynamic problem The classical water-wave problem concerns the irrotational flow of a perfect fluid of unit density subject to the forces of gravity and surface tension. The fluid motion is described by the Euler equations in a domain bounded below by a rigid horizontal bottom {y = −h} and above by a free surface which is described as a graph {y = η(x, z, t)}, where the function η d...
متن کاملThree-dimensional Solitary Gravity-capillary Water Waves
The existence of solitary-wave solutions to the three-dimensional water-wave problem with strong surface-tension effects is predicted by the KP-I model equation. The term solitary wave describes any solution which has a pulse-like profile in its direction of propagation, and the KP-I equation admits explicit solutions for three different types of solitary wave. A line solitary wave is spatially...
